Something Old

Lately, I've been scanning and posting to my Flickr Account photographs I took during the summer of 1985 when I studied in La Rochelle, France with the University of Richmond.

My wife has a UMAX professional scanner, but I'm doing these on our Canon printer because I kind of like the old-school look that they have. Makes you feel like you are watching slides of your uncle's vacation pictures.

Lately, mostly after my (shudder) 25th high school reunion, I've been trying to catch up with old friends I haven't seen in a long time, or talked to in ages. I have only kept in touch with one person I went to France with, Peter Kirkpatrick, and keeping-in-touch is probably not the right way to describe talking every several years. Sadly, the couple I stayed with have split up. But I would like to get back and see them some time.

Oh and dig the mid 80s hair.

So, there is this site you've never heard of, www.schmap.com, which apparently is trying to make a living out of borrowing (with permission of course) other peoples content and organizing it into travel guides.

I gave them permission to use this photograph that I took in Seattle a couple of years ago. If you can find the waterfall garden in Pioneer Square in Seattle on their site, one of the pictures is mine.

Hey, I get a photo credit, what's not to like? My cousin is a professional photographer (Miller Photography) and I bet he has no credits on Schmap!

I've been interested in photography all of my life (courtesy of my cousin, Scott) but I think this is the first time that I've been "published". The question is, can you make any money repurposing other peoples content. Is a little ego stroke, sufficient compensation for people like me who do the creative work?
